Bronchitis occurs when the tubes that carry air to the lungs called bronchi get inflamed and swollen. Acute bronchitis is more common where the symptoms last for weeks. It is mostly due to flu viruses. Chronic bronchitis is recurring. It may be due to bacteria/air pollution/dusty or smoky environment..

Symptoms

  • It includes chest congestion, cough bringing up mucous, shortness of breath, wheezing, may also include fever, chills, stuffy nose and sore throat.

Diagnosis

  • It can be made up with a chest Xray

Treatment

  • Treatment for acute bronchitis include cough medications, use of humidifier/steam inhaler.
  • Chronic bronchitis may require antibiotic, anti-inflammatory bronchodilators, mucous clearing medications.
